Treatment Overview
Botox® Cosmetic is a prescription neuromodulator used in adults to temporarily reduce muscle activity that contributes to forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet and vertical neck bands. ERT Cosmetic Clinic also offers other neuromodulator options, including Dysport® and Xeomin®; these products are not interchangeable, and product selection depends on an individual assessment.
At our Richmond and Mississauga clinics, a qualified healthcare professional reviews your goals, facial movement, medical history and medications before recommending a treatment plan. Product, dose, injection sites, expected outcome and follow-up are tailored to each patient.

How it Works

Botox® Cosmetic contains onabotulinumtoxinA. When injected into selected muscles, it blocks part of the nerve signals to those muscles and temporarily reduces their movement. As the targeted muscle activity decreases, associated expression lines may appear softer; the effect gradually wears off over time.
In Canada, Botox® Cosmetic is authorized for adult upper facial lines, including forehead lines, glabellar frown lines and lateral canthal lines commonly known as crow’s feet. It is also authorized to improve the appearance of platysma prominence, or vertical neck bands, in adults. Other requested treatment areas require an individual clinical assessment.
Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin® have different formulations, and their units are not interchangeable. A qualified healthcare professional will determine the appropriate product, dose and injection pattern.

FAQ
WHAT AREAS CAN BOTOX® COSMETIC TREAT?
In Canada, Botox® Cosmetic is authorized for adult forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet and vertical neck bands caused by platysma prominence. Suitability depends on your anatomy, muscle movement, medical history and treatment goals. Other areas require an individual assessment and may have different approved uses.
HOW LONG DO BOTOX® COSMETIC RESULTS LAST?
The effects generally last about four months, although individual results vary. Botox® Cosmetic should not be administered more frequently than every three months. Your practitioner will recommend follow-up timing based on your response.
WHEN WILL I NOTICE A CHANGE?
The effect develops gradually rather than immediately, and timing can vary between patients and products. Your practitioner will explain when to assess your result and whether a follow-up appointment is appropriate.
WILL I LOOK FROZEN OR UNNATURAL?
The treatment plan is customized according to your facial movement, anatomy and preferred result. Dose and placement can be adjusted to retain an appropriate degree of movement, but outcomes vary and no specific result can be guaranteed.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTOX®, DYSPORT® AND XEOMIN®?
All three are prescription botulinum toxin type A products, but they have different formulations and their units are not interchangeable. Your practitioner will recommend a product after considering the treatment area, anatomy, previous experience and clinical goals.
WHAT SIDE EFFECTS OR RISKS SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT?
Possible reactions include injection-site pain, tenderness, redness, swelling or bruising, headache, eyelid changes and local muscle weakness. Rare but serious symptoms can include difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing or weakness away from the injection area; seek immediate medical attention if these occur. Tell your practitioner about your medical conditions, medications, pregnancy or nursing status, allergies and any infection near a proposed injection site.
