Surgical Overview
Abdominoplasty is a common procedure we perform for both women and men at our clinic. Over time, your abdominal skin and muscles weaken and become looser due to weight change, pregnancy, or through the aging process. Tummy Tuck is a procedure where extra skin is removed, and the abdominal muscles are tightened. Our tummy tuck consultation generally lasts from 45 minutes to an hour. Full Abdominoplasty / Tummy Tuck
In reality, a full Abdominoplasty is the most common procedure performed. In this procedure, Dr. Rice removes the skin from about the belly button to the pubic hairline, so any stretch marks within this are will be gone. The loose muscle is then tightened to assist in flattening the abdomen. Liposuction is generally performed in the area of the love handles in order to aid in that hourglass appearance. The incision line that was at the level of the belly button is now sutured to the incision line that was at the level of the pubic hairline. So, let’s say you have a tattoo above your belly button that tattoo would now be above your pubic hairline. The surgery generally takes about 2 hours and full recovery is about 6 weeks till you are back to sit-ups and working out at the gym and people are generally off work about two weeks.
Mini Tummy Tuck / Abdominoplasty
A mini Tummy Tuck / Abdominoplasty is generally performed on women or men that have a flat abdominal muscle yet still have loose skin above the pubic hairline. No matter how much you work out at the gym you just can’t get rid of that extra skin, and this can be very frustrating. With a mini abdominoplasty/tummy tuck, the incision is generally kept a little lower than a traditional tummy tuck. The incision is comparable to that of a C Section. The extra skin removed is generally found above the pubic hairline to about half way to the belly button. In this procedure the belly button is generally not touched, however, there are a few procedures in which the belly button can be released and dropped down slightly. So let’s say you had a tattoo above the belly button in a full tummy tuck that tattoo would be dropped to just above the pubic hairline , however, in a mini tummy tuck, that tattoo would stay just where it is. The muscle can still be tightened if needed, and liposuction can be performed on the love handles The recovery time varies depending on if the muscle needs to be tightened however most people are able to return to the gym within 4-6 weeks.

Who is a good candidate?
The best candidates for abdominoplasty are men or women who are in relatively good shape but are bothered by a large fat deposit or loose abdominal skin that disappear with diet or exercise.
